Thank you for visiting our Pear Tree Nursery @Ashfield Park page. We understand that choosing the right setting for your child is an extremely important decision. We feel that the best way to get a true feel for what we can offer at Pear Trees is for you and your child to come and visit us and meet our children and staff. We hope that we can welcome you at Ashfield Park Nursery soon.

Pear Tree nursery's ethos is founded on some of the wider school values of respect, tolerance, resilience and high aspirations. We are based in the heart of Ashfield Park Primary School's Early Years area and welcome children aged 3 to 4 years from the Ross-On-Wye community and beyond. Our spacious, self-contained and custom built facility is located at the front of the school and has its own, canopied outdoor play area. We spend a great deal of our time learning outdoors, within the extensive school grounds or further afield in our local community. We have full access to all the school facilities including Forest School with its fire pit, the library, sports fields and outdoor play areas.

Despite having all the advantages of being in a school, Pear Tree's is very much a specialist early years setting in which our caring, experienced and well qualified staff value each child as a unique and independent learner. At Pear Tree's we believe that every child needs a warm, supportive environment in order to develop the skills necessary to learn and reach their full potential. Our provision is child-led which means that staff continually observe, assess and interact with children to get a comprehensive grasp of their stage of development, unique styles of learning and areas of interest. We encourage and enable the children's family and important adults to be a part of this process and place great importance on communication between the setting and home.

Many of our Pear Trees progress into Ashfield Park Primary School Reception classes but our setting will support children's transition into any school.

Our Principles

The principles which guide the work of our practitioners are grouped into four themes:

  • A Unique Child - every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
  • Positive Relationships - children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.
  • Enabling Environments - the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
  • Learning and Development - children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected.
