Year 4 spent an amazing day in Cardiff on Tuesday 26th November. First they experienced ‘hands on’ science at Techniquest and then a truly fascinating session in the planetarium, where the pupils were congratulated on their superb knowledge of our solar system, by the staff of the centre. After a short walk around Cardiff Bay, the pupils arrived at The Doctor Who Experience, where they stepped into the interactive world of the Doctor (some were genuinely scared at certain points in this virtual experience). Finally, they looked around the two floors of Tardis sets, costumes and monsters, which are actually used in the T.V show. This school visit must be ranked as one of the best and Mrs Jones has certainly experienced a great many!
We excitedly returned to Ross Community Garden to harvest our bumper crop of pumpkins, which we planted back in June, with the help of Tim Shelley and other volunteers from the project. It was a great learning experience, which ended in us selecting the best pumpkin from our plants, to take home. The Community Garden is an inspirational project and we are sending thank you letters and individual pumpkin pies (made by Cookery Club) to Tim and his volunteers.
This term our topic is 'To Infinity and Beyond' - space exploration, science and maths related to the Sun, Earth and Moon and later in the term friction, forces and gravity, while in literacy science-fiction will hopefully inspire some great writing and a love of reading.
The following website is a fantastic resource for maths learning. If you wish for your child to do some extra home learning, this is a great place to start!
