Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the Spring Term! We hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed the festive season.
We are looking forward to a busy and exciting term. Our topic is THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT. We will be using our geography skills to find out about different entertainments around the world. Later, as historians, we will learn about Shakespeare and the Globe Theatre. We are planning a trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon in March. Also, we hope to use our DT skills to design and make hand puppets. Our science topics for the term are: Forces & Magnets and Light.
In Literacy, we will begin with poetry before practising our story writing skills using a story called ‘Adventure at Sandy Cove’. To make progress as a writer, it is very important that your child takes time to learn their spellings and practises writing sentences at home. Keeping a diary or writing letters is a good way to do this. It is also essential that children continue to read regularly to an adult at home.
In Maths, we are continuing our work on subtraction. Please make sure your child is working on either the 3 & 4 or the 6 & 8 times tables. Ask your child’s teacher if you are unsure which ones are appropriate for your child. Your child should also be able to tell the time using an analogue clock. Homework will continue to be set on Thursdays to be returned the following Monday.
PE is on Tuesdays and Forest Schools is finished for this term.
Next week we are focusing on Science. Your child will become a personal trainer, giving advice on nutrition and exercise.
Thank you for all your support. We wish you all the very best for 2017.
